Hey there folks, it’s your quirky adventurer and daring hiker here, eager to share some of the most thrilling hiking experiences one can have near Los Angeles, California. Here are seven of my favorite hiking trails for all levels of difficulty.
-
Mount Baldy
At 10,064 feet, Mount Baldy is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains and a favorite among adventurous hikers. The trail is 11.4 miles long and is a challenging hike with a steep climb, but the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys make it all worthwhile.
-
Runyon Canyon
Runyon Canyon offers a scenic loop trail with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. While it’s only 3.3 miles, it’s a steep incline and one should be fit to undertake it. On weekends, the trail can get crowded, but that won’t dampen your spirits or your delightful urban exploration of Los Angeles.
-
Escondido Falls
Escondido Falls is a 3.6-mile out-and-back trail that offers spectacular views of Malibu. It features a 150-foot waterfall and a variety of wildflowers and is great for hikers of all levels. I especially love hiking on this trail during winter and spring when the water is abundant.
-
Eaton Canyon
Eaton Canyon is a popular hiking spot with a 3.5-mile trail that leads to a beautiful 40-ft waterfall. The trail is easy to hike and is suitable for families with children. So, if you’re looking for an easy trip to nature, Eaton Canyon is the perfect fit for you.
-
Sandstone Peak
Sandstone Peak is an 18.6-mile out-and-back trail that features stunning views of Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. The trail is known for its wildflowers, challenging terrain, and rock formations. So, put on your hiking boots and prepare for a long and rewarding adventure in the California mountains.
-
Bridge to Nowhere
Bridge to Nowhere is a 10-mile out-and-back trail that takes you to a bridge that was abandoned during the construction of a road in the area. The bridge serves no purpose, hence its name, but offers excellent photo opportunities for hikers willing to make the journey.
-
Devil’s Punchbowl
Devil’s Punchbowl is a unique destination with stunning rock formations, canyons, and mountain views. The trail can be strenuous, but the scenery is awe-inspiring. Campsites are available nearby, so it’s the perfect opportunity to turn the hike into a weekend camping getaway.
Take on Mount Baldy and experience breathtaking views of Southern California.
Don’t let Runyon Canyon’s popularity put you off. It’s a city trail with a rugged terrain that offers a fun workout and a rewarding view of the city.
Malibu’s Escondido Falls concludes with a majestic waterfall that is not to be missed.
Eaton Canyon is a great place for children and beginners to enjoy nature and waterfalls.
For those who truly love hiking, the rewards of Sandstone Peak’s length are worth it. With picturesque views of the Pacific to greet you along the way.
Calling all adventurers in Los Angeles, the Bridge to Nowhere is not for those scared of heights but is worth it for the thrill seekers.
Devil’s Punchbowl boasts amazing rock formations: perfect for hikers who love to explore unique landscapes.
