Hello my fellow beer enthusiasts! As someone who has been brewing their own beer for years, I’ve come to appreciate a good brewery. So, I’ve taken it upon myself to sample some of the best breweries in and around Detroit, Michigan. Here are my top ten, in no particular order.

Batch Brewing Company
Started in 2015, the Batch Brewing Company specializes in experimental craft beers. They’re not afraid to try new things (like their “Milkshake IPA”), which makes for an exciting beer drinking experience. They also offer a delicious food menu to pair with your beer.

Atwater Brewery
Atwater Brewery has been around since 1997, making it one of Detroit’s oldest breweries. They offer a wide range of beers, from their popular “Dirty Blonde” to their seasonal “Winterbock”. The location is also equipped with a large taproom and a menu of delicious food.

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is known for their flavorful sour beers. They have a cozy taproom with rustic decor. Their menu offers small bites such as charcuterie boards and pizzas to enjoy with your drinks.

Detroit Beer Company
The Detroit Beer Company is conveniently located in downtown Detroit and offers a variety of classic beer styles. Their beer flights are generous and are a great way to sample a few different options. The food menu is also diverse and delicious.

B. Nektar Meadery
B. Nektar Meadery specializes in – you guessed it – mead! They have an extensive selection of honey wines, many of them made with unique ingredients like hops and herbs. Their taproom also serves delicious food, like their famous mac and cheese.

Founders Brewing Co.
Founders Brewing Co. originated in Grand Rapids but have since opened a taproom in Detroit. They have a reputation for brewing some of the best IPAs in the game, with their “All Day IPA” being a fan favorite. Their taproom also offers a delicious food menu.

Eastern Market Brewing Co.
Eastern Market Brewing Co. is located in the heart of Detroit’s historic Eastern Market. They offer a variety of beers from German-style lagers to hazy IPAs. The taproom is spacious and perfect for groups. Plus, they have a nifty mobile app for ordering food and drinks from your table.

Dragonmead Brewery
Dragonmead Brewery has been brewing beer since 1997. They specialize in Belgian-style ales, but also offer a range of other styles. Their taproom has a cozy medieval vibe, and their food menu includes items like shepherd’s pie and soft pretzels.

River Rouge Brewing is located in Royal Oak and offers a diverse range of beers, from their classic “Sassy Blonde” to their experimental “Black and Blue” sour ale. Their food menu includes tacos, burgers, and salads.
